A Jazzy Duo Not To Be Missed

Michael Lington and Jonathan Fritzén

Lington.jpgMichael Lington is a visionary and a dreamer.

Self-described as “retro-modern,” his recently released ninth solo album, Second Nature, pays tribute to the music that the saxophonist first fell in love with as a teenager in Copenhagen. “Even as a young musician I connected with the songs because they were written well and had great messages,” recalled Lington. “The performances were outstanding and the artists were original and authentic.” Michael Lington’s own soulful, spirited sound and the roots of Memphis soul converge in a musical style not to be missed.

Fritzen.jpgLike Lington, chart topper Jonathan Fritzén discovered jazz while living in another country: Sweden. Raised in a musical family, Fritzén attended Stockholm’s Royal Academy of Music and became one of the first students to receive a Master’s degree in jazz. Today, he is one of the hottest composers and keyboard players in instrumental pop, performing with the likes of Gerald Albright, Paul Taylor and Nils Landgren, on his most recent release Fritzenized. “I feel so fortunate that my dreams of touring the world, sharing my music with so many people and playing with childhood idols has become a reality,” said Fritzén. “Now, I feel more strongly that I want to focus on different types of goals and for my music to affect people’s lives in a very positive way. Music can be a powerful force.”

Michael Lington and Jonathan Fritzen are headed to Hampton for an evening of jazz at The American Theatre on Friday, February 3 at 8pm!
