Sound of Music is one of our "Favorite Things"

Is the Academy Award-winning film, The Sound of Music, one of your “favorite things”? The Phoebus Film Club presents a special event screening of Sing-A-Long Sound of Music where the audience takes over as the star.

Join on-screen legends, Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, along with all of those adorable Von Trapp children. Hosted by acclaimed Richmond actress Eva DeVirgilis (The Search for Intelligent Signs Life in the Universe, Quill Theatre; Law & Order: Criminal Intent, NBC), the interactive evening welcomes audience members to sing along with the classic Rodgers & Hammerstein score, which includes such memorable songs as “My Favorite Things, “Do-Re-Mi,” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain.”

Released in 1965, The Sound of Music won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and is considered one of the greatest movie musicals of all time. Filmed throughout Austria, The Sound of Music’s sweeping melodies have captivated audiences for generations. Those with a keen eye might be able to see Julie Andrews’ giggles during the romantic scene with the Captain in the gazebo (it was eventually shot in silhouette) or her trip in the courtyard during “I Have Confidence,” which was an accident but director Robert Wise found it charming and decided to keep it in the film’s final cut.

Did you know? In the stage version of The Sound of Music, “My Favorite Things” was performed as a duet between the Mother Superior and Maria.

“The Sound of Music continues to charm audiences of all ages,” said Hampton Arts Artistic Director, Richard M. Parison, Jr. “And what better way to celebrate Rodgers & Hammerstein’s legendary score than with a good, old-fashioned Sing-A-Long?”

Sing-A-Long Sound of Music screens at The American Theatre on Friday, April 21 at 8pm! Don’t miss this special event, purchase tickets here: http://bit.ly/2mPEi5W
