The Mystical Arts of Tibet at The American Theatre

The Mystical Arts of Tibet, which began in 1988, is a world tour performed by monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery in South India. Endorsed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the tour was established to promote world peace and healing by sharing Tibet’s sacred visual arts with modern audiences from around the world.

The American Theatre is proud to collaborate with the monks to provide a safe space for the creation of a sand mandala. Painting with colored sand, called dul-tson-kyil-khor, stems from the artistic traditions of Tantric Buddhism. Millions of grains of sand are painstakingly laid into place on a flat platform over a short period of time.  The base is formed with patterns of geometric shapes and a multitude of ancient spiritual symbols. The process and final creation of the sand-painted mandala is used as a tool for re-consecrating the earth and its inhabitants.

Join us for this once in a lifetime event at The American Theatre! This event is FREE and open to the public.
