As an artist, how can I exhibit my work at The Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center?

Artists may join the Hampton Arts League, and as a member, can exhibit one artwork in the annual Hampton Arts League Members Exhibition which is on display during February. Artists can also submit three entries to the Virginia Artists Juried Exhibition in the spring. Artists are invited to become a part of the Artist Database by sending their contact information, resume, media and three digital images of their artwork as 300 dpi jpg attachments about 1-3 MB. The prospectus for the juried exhibitions and most of the invitational exhibitions are selected by the Gallery Manager from this database.

What is the Hampton Arts League?

The Hampton Arts League is a membership organization of regional artists. See Hampton Arts League for more information.

What types of classes do you offer?

Adult classes are offered in drawing, painting, watercolor, photography and other visual arts and children classes in drawing and paintings during the summer time. Fees vary depending on the length of the class. Adult students provide their own materials for most of their classes. See Classes for more information.

What other types of programs are offered by The Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center?

There are monthly HAL meetings, annual painting events, bus trips to art museums, gallery talks, poetry readings and other special events. See Arts Happenings for more information.

Can I bring food or beverage into the arts center?

No outside food or beverage is allowed inside The Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center.

What items are prohibited from entering The Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center?

These items include but are not limited to: illegal weapons, illegal drugs, laser pointers, outside food & beverage, bottles and coolers.

Can I smoke at The Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center?

Smoking is prohibited at The Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center. “Smoking” means (1) lighting or burning any type of tobacco, including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, and pipes (2) lighting or burning of non-tobacco plants, incense, spice (or spice like product),  or marijuana; and (3) using electronic cigarettes.

The first floor of the gallery is ADA accessible.

How do I book a tour?

To schedule a group tour of an exhibition at The Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center, call 757-727-1490 or email ctvisualarts@hampton.gov. Group tours are free although donations are appreciated.

Parking

Is there a charge for parking?

Parking is free for all guests. See Plan Your Visit for more information.

Where is your handicap parking?

A limited number of designated handicap parking spaces including van-accessible spaces are available in the main parking lot. These spaces are for vehicles displaying a current state issued disability placard or license plate. Spaces are filled on a ‘first-come’ basis.

Where is the designated drop-off area?

Drop-off may be done at the parking lot entrance of The Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center.
